Zenoss Announces Enhancements to Service Dynamics Platform

Capacity Planning, Intelligent Event Suppression, and Monitoring for Red Hat Ceph Storage Among New Capabilities of Market-Leading Platform

AUSTIN, TX — March 7, 2016 — Zenoss Inc., the leader in unified IT monitoring and analytics software, today announced the availability of significant new capabilities for the Zenoss 5 platform, adding monitoring support for Ceph storage environments and expanding the ability of enterprise and service provider customers to proactively manage their hybrid IT infrastructures and avoid service disruptions.

"Many of the new functionalities within the Zenoss Service Dynamics 5 platform are designed around expediting and automating critical IT functions," said Matt Stellpflug, Systems Engineer at Verisae. "It’s great to see Zenoss continue to add features like Component Grouping and New Dependency Views that expedite deployment, management, and remediation functions."

Zenoss Service Dynamics 5.1 brings new capacity planning, troubleshooting, usability, scalability and deployment features to IT Operations.

  • Consumption trendline modeling and time-based predictive thresholds enable IT administrators to forecast when the capacity of a resource is likely to be exhausted, and be alerted days or weeks in advance of when that threshold is expected to be reached. This allows Operations to be more proactive when planning the reprovisioning of resources or adding new capacity to their infrastructure.

  • Dependency Views aid in troubleshooting problems by providing an at-a-glance view of the dependencies between devices and components that support a service, regardless of their location locally or in the cloud.

  • The Component Groups organizer allows Operations to collectively manage similar components across multiple devices. For example, IT administrators can monitor network traffic across all the uplink ports on multiple switches, or CPU consumption across all their web servers.

  • Trap Filtering delivers intelligent event suppression, enabling administrators to selectively discard traps at the source, based on device, device type, or trap type. This reduces event "noise" making it easier for Operations to scale device monitoring and zero in on important problems.

  • Appliances, including OVA (VMware), ISO (Microsoft) and AMI (Amazon Web Services) formats, accelerate time-to-value of both single and multi-host production deployments for customers and partners.

In addition, Zenoss has released a new ZenPack for Ceph Storage – the enterprise-class, open source, software-defined storage platform maintained by Red Hat. The ZenPack provides interfaces for Ceph’s object-, block- and file-level storage. Zenoss Service Impact users have access to a graphical model of the Ceph cluster's inter-related components (Endpoints, Hosts, Pools, OSDs, RDB, MDS, CephFS), yielding faster root cause identification of problems and greatly expedited mean time to resolution (MTTR).

"Our mission is to help organizations deliver hybrid IT service assurance at scale by monitoring physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures from a unified platform," said Marcus MacNeill, Zenoss VP of Product Management. "The latest release of the Zenoss 5 platform reflects feedback from our enterprise and service provider customers, and the advanced capabilities they require to address pervasive service delivery needs within their complex and dynamic IT environments."
