Hybrid IT Infrastructure Recommended by Cisco
We’ve just come back from the Cisco Partner Summit, where Cisco explained how partners could help customers build out the hybrid IT infrastructure they introduced at Cisco Live. Cisco’s hybrid cloud infrastructure is built around familiar and new elements.
The familiar include network switching and ACI along with UCS servers and converged infrastructures. New elements start with hyper-converged infrastructure then add in an extremely capable analytics platform, and include powerful software for helping customers move applications to the cloud.
This fits perfectly with what customers are telling Zenoss. We hear three big themes from Cisco and our customers:
Automation - Rapidly create, implement, and change IT policies to reduce costs
Analytics - New insights that lower risks and improve efficiency
Hybrid IT - Coordinated efforts across data center and cloud to improve overall effectiveness
Zenoss Role in Hybrid IT
What’s the Zenoss role in hybrid IT? Common visibility through effective data interchange for a focus on service delivery assurance - the ability to understand the current state of each business application and quickly identify and resolve issues.
Common visibility is easy to understand. It means being able to collect events, metrics, and availability data from essentially any piece of IT infrastructure. And since every customer has special needs, it means a flexible, extensible system.
Data interchange is a relatively new, but incredibly quickly growing need. For most organizations, it starts with a great integration between their monitoring tools and a service desk, as Zenoss has with ServiceNow. We’re working with dozens of customers on the next wave of integrations - extending service views with application response time alerts from Dynatrace, discovering log file trends with Splunk queries, driving service provisioning automation with SaltStack, adding unified communications assurance through LayerX, and much more. IT process integrations like these can have large immediate payback in terms of process efficiency, error reduction, and management effectiveness.
Zenoss Partnership with Cisco
Our partnership with Cisco has helped Zenoss customers with both common visibility and data interchange. We have years of work in Cisco labs on Nexus, ACI, and UCS and have outstanding support as a result. Similarly, a significant number of our customers have functioning data interchange with UCS Director, Prime Service Catalog, and ACI, with new support for Cisco VIM and CloudCenter underway.
